Deeply rooted in Islam, Dubai’s culture provides inspiration and strength that touches many aspects of day today living. Most of the neighborhoods have their own mosque, where the local people congregate for praying five times every day. Jumeirah Mosque is the largest and most beautiful mosque of Dubai and is the perfect example of modern Islamic architecture. It is constructed in medieval Fatimid style and made of stone and its beauty can be admired during night amidst lighting during Dubai travel.
Ramadan is the holy month of fasting in Dubai when Muslims do not consume any food or drink from morning to evening. Hospitality and courtesy are the hallmarks of virtues of the local people of Dubai and visitors will be spellbound by the treatment extended to them by this community during their visit to Dubai.
A visit to Dubai will transport you on a journey through time. According to archaeological discoveries only small fishing communities lived along the coast of the Arabian Gulf on the site of modern Dubai, some 4000 years ago. The Dubai creek and its sheltered harbor functioned as the ancient trade route between Indus valley and Mesopotamia. In Dubai those days, nomadic Bedouin community roamed the desert with their camels to eke out a living. Life was hard and cultivators grew date palms wherever they found a trace of water. The traditional occupations of Dubai were pearl diving and fishing, dhow building etc, the former contributed to the massive growth of Dubai’s economy.
During Dubai travel, you’ll notice that the Arab national dress is the white ankle- length, loose-fitting garment worn by men which is called dishdasha or Kandoura. The head is covered for safeguarding against the burning sun and heat. A full length, long-sleeved dress, also called a kandoura, is worn by women which has embroidery work and covered entirely by a black abayah. The women cover their hair with a thin black veil called the shayla.
