Though cycling does not figure prominently among major Dubai sports, groups of expatriates keep the sport alive with regular weekly activities. A tourist on a visit to Dubai hardly finds people on bicycles on the roads. There are no dedicated lanes for cyclists on roads and that makes it difficult to commute in the city on a cycle, if you are one of those environmentally conscious people on a travel to Dubai.
Cycling Club: Dubai Roadsters is an enthusiastic group of cyclists passionately involved in the sport of cycling. A visit to Dubai Roadsters can be satisfying if you are in time for any of their recreational cycling events. They organize weekly rides, sometimes tours through the desert and cycle races. The roadsters keep the cycling flag flying high in Dubai sports through their support with bike maintenance, rentals, organizing cycle tours etc.
The group also organizes cycle tours abroad. This year a group of roadsters, led by Thomas Tapken, a hotelier, went on a 1000 km ride across Thailand and Cambodia to raise funds for a charity.

New Dubai Cyclists is one of the Google groups that help in contacting cyclists in and around Dubai. Visit the group on the internet for more details before traveling to Dubai.
Dubai Triathlon Club: This is a club for people interested in swimming, cycling and running. They organize three to four triathlons and other events every year during the Dubai sports athletic season – October to April. You do not have to join the club to participate in any of the events. If you are visiting Dubai during the season, you could attend their training sessions held every Thursday.

For fitness conscious people visiting Dubai who seek outdoor activity, there are some options of cycling tours through the surrounding desert and hills. Some of the hotels like the Hatta Fort Hotel provide cyclists with outfits for a day’s explorative ride.
The transport authorities in Dubai are planning to introduce cycle lanes on roads in the near future. If that happens, cycling will gain popularity among Dubai sports.
